Negative Effects
Deforestation is ruining the environment overall, but some effects are worse than others. Deforestation in the foothills of the Himalayas has led to catastrophic flooding of the Ganges River. Flooding threatens to ruin surrounding cities and leave people homeless. This is a big deal because the Ganges is one of the holiest places for Hindus and they are encouraged to make a pilgrimage there. If the Ganges floods and there’s nothing left, then the Hindu religion will not be happy. The trees stop the flooding so that doesn’t happen. Also, deforestation increases the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, relating to the Greenhouse effect as mentioned before.
